Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico

Ongoing Relief Efforts

Continuing Relief Efforts

When Hurricane Irma skirted Puerto Rico on September 7, it killed three and plunged 1 million people into darkness, but it saved the brunt of its force for other islands. Two weeks later, Category 5 Hurricane Maria showed no mercy, ripping into Puerto Rico with 200 mph winds, leaving 3 million Americans without food, water, electricity or gas. The death toll is impossible to calculate.

Volunteer Ministers flew from the Dominican Republic and other islands to join local Scientologists in the relief efforts.

VMs collected, organized and distributed tons of donated goods flown in from Churches of Scientology in the Tampa Bay area. With the airport now open to commercial flights, VMs from the U.S. and Europe are heading to Puerto Rico to help in the long-term recovery and rebuilding.
